About the League Our Flyer!
The West Vancouver Girls’ Softball Association offers girls in our community an opportunity to participate in girls’ fastpitch softball. WVGSA is a non-profit organization run by volunteers committed to the growth and development of the sport, promoting friendship, skill, teamwork and fun! Girls learn skills they will use their whole lives in business and social settings. We are a member of Softball B.C. (www.softball.bc.ca), which has 15 geographical divisions and over 100 local associations throughout the province.
WVGSA provides “a team for every girl”. We field teams for approximately 200 girls, ranging in ages from 6 to 19. The players are divided into 6 divisions by age, each division having a two year step with a birth date cut-off of December 31 of the previous year. The divisions are: Mini-Mites under 8; Mites under 10; Squirts under 12; Peewee under 14; Bantam under 16; and Midget under 19.
About The Level of Play and Equipment Provided
Our teams participate at the “House” (recreational) level. Please see our registration form for the details and fees. Each team plays 1-2 league games per week and usually has one practice. In addition to league play, some teams also enter weekend tournaments and playdown tournaments for qualification to participate at the Provincial championships. All games are played according to Softball BC rules. Pitching is fast pitch, using a full wind-mill motion (except in Mini-mite). Accredited umpires are provided for all games at the Squirt level and above. The WVGSA supplies team equipment and uniforms. Players are required to supply their own gloves, shoes and water bottles.
Registration for Start of Season
Our league starts at the beginning of April and league games are scheduled until late June. Evening games usually begin at 6:30 and run for about 1 hour and 45 minutes. There may also be a few weekend games. The registration form lists the days of the week that each division plays. Our home fields are located at Sentinel High School and Hollyburn Elementary School. Our teams play in a league with the North Vancouver Girls Softball Association, so about half of all league games are played at our home fields and the other half at North Vancouver ball diamonds.
